How to do a find without using python regular expression module re?
I'm using python 3.4 and want to do a find without using re.
My idea was to use the operator.search() in the string as I have seen it described here:

string.search("mystring", "string")
But that returns -1 as it is an invalid position index:
>>> string.search("mystring", "string")
-1
Which might mean that this is not possible in my case?

You cannot use find() function to search for a string inside a string object. It works like this:
>>> "str".find('test')
-1
>>> "str".find('est')
0
>>> "str".find('test') == "str".find('test')
False
The find() function takes a string and returns the first occurrence of a substring as an integer index. So, it expects a string object, not a string itself.
